A rare Sèvres saucer, circa 1830
Soucoupe, period of Alexandre Brogniard, decorated on the rim with circular medallions enclosing depictions en grisaille of sugar root and canes and the finished sugar cones, an elaborate chinoiserie teapot as an emblem for the tea trade, a coffee mill as an emblem for the coffee trade, and what appear to be indicators of the cocoa trade, all tied together with wreaths of exotic flowers and plants, the central panel with a ship mounted with a griffin, Hermes' winged hat on his caduceus and a Chinaman smoking a pipe, under the title 'ARABIE.CHINE.AMERIQUE', 15.3cm, stenciled Sèvres mark and date (18)30, incised 'MC 99-40', H in gold, m.26 jy in gold (minor wear to the centre)
