A pair of Orléans biscuit porcelain busts of Voltaire and Rousseau , circa 1770-80

Voltaire wearing a loose chemise and cloak, his wigless head balding showing his age, Rousseau wearing a fur-lined coat and open-necked shirt, both set on a detachable flared classical socle, 23cm high (4)

Footnotes

These groups were traditionally attributed to Tournai, but have more recently been proven to have been made by the Orléans factory. See Froissart (2005), pp.76ff., figure 26. A similar bust of Rousseau is illustrated in Deroubaix 1958, cat.no. 1946.
