A rare Vienna biscuit porcelain group of the 'Altar of Mourning', circa 1780
Modelled with a weeping classical maiden leaning on a circular plinth on which rests a dead bird, inscribed 'MEIN LIEBLING/ IST DAHIN', on a circular base, 33.5cm high, incised x, impressed 98 and K to rear of base (flat chips to edge of base)

Kräftner (ed.), Prachtware: Porzellane des Klassizismus aus dem Marton Museum in Zagreb, exhibition catalogue, Liechtenstein Museum (2010), no. 15.7, where it is noted that the model is probably based upon a Vincennes figure of 1755-56.
