A rare Fürstenberg pear-shaped coffee pot and cover, circa 1765

Each side painted with a landscape vignette depicting figures in Russian costume, the domed cover similarly decorated, with a gilt-edged flower finial, the double scroll handle and scroll-moulded spout heightened in gilding, gilt scrollwork borders to the rims, 24.5cm high, F in underglaze-blue (2)

The figures on this coffee pot are based upon three different engravings by J.B. Le Prince: 'Paysenne ou femme du Commun' and 'Servante en Habit d'Hiver' from the series 'Divers habillemens des femmes de Moscovie' of 1764; and 'femme marié et ses enfants' from the series 'Suite de Divers Habillemens des Peuples du Nord, dessinés d'aprés Nature' of 1765, published by Ducret (see above Literature), ills. 44-46.
