A Meissen silver-mounted octagonal sugar box and cover, circa 1724-25
Painted with a chinoiserie scene on each side within a gilt scrollwork cartouche filled with Böttger lustre and edged in iron-red foliate scrollwork, flowering branches hanging from the rim at either end, the cover with two similar vignettes enclosed by floral and gilt scroll- and strapwork borders, the cover and foot with a later silver gilt mount, 11cm across, K.P.M. and crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, gilders mark 51. to both box and cover (some losses to the gilding)
