the galleried back above a lobed edge and panelled frieze flanked by carved foliate paterae, on turned and linenfold carved legs headed by acanthus collars, 212cm wide, 83cm deep, 104cm high (83in wide, 32.5in deep, 40.5in high).
Footnotes
The richly carved fruiting paterae on the frieze of this serving table are apparently identical to those illustrated by Gillows of Lancaster on a side table made for J. H. Langston Esq. on October 3rd 1822 (see the firm's Estimate Sketch Books, p. 3194) and a pedestal sideboard made for Jonathan Hargreaves Esq on August 15th 1826 (E.S.B. p. 3544). They also appear on a serving table made for William Moore Esq. on January 11th 1836 (E.S.B. p. 5072). The Langston table has acanthus-headed reeded legs (possibly carved with linenfolds) almost identical to the present example's, and a similar panelled and beaded frieze. The combination of rectangular-panelled frieze (sometimes with drawers) with rectangular-panelled gallery appears on at least thirty-eight sideboards or side tables illustrated by Gillows in their Estimate Sketch Books between 1816 and 1829 and General Sketch Book of 1823.
