The letter addressed to the G.. Sec't of the Mission Society/77 Hatton Garden/London.
It refers to the subject of the painting and provides valuable ethnographic information of the woman, the items she is carrying, their containers,the material from which they are made, and their Aboriginal names.
William Walker (1800-1855) was a Methodist Minister in the Colony and was based in Parramatta at the time. The Mission Society later became The Wesleyan Society.
