Heyde No.2 size RARE Nansen's Expedition to the North Pole (1893-1896)
'Fram' tinplate masted steamship displaying the Norwegian flag, fitted to a papier mache ice floe with gangplank, tinplate hut with chimney, three vignettes on tinplate bases: polar bear attacking explorer with friend directing two dogs to attack, two men tending cooking pots over a fire and man with map table and working compass, two sledges with four horse dog teams and drivers, one covered the other open, four explorers on skis, one pulling sledge and three with prospecting poles, explorers with rifles, spears, knife, shovel, picks and axes, telescope on tripod, a boat raised on a sledge, six dogs, six boxes, four barrels and a standing polar bear, with Forbes Collection certificate of authenticity lot 453 (G-F, one arm missing, some slight oxidisation and rusting to tinplate) 1899 (61)
