A Rare Tournament Lance, And A Lance In Gothic Style
The First 16th Century

The first with iron head of tapering circular section becoming hexagonal beneath the stout point of stiff diamond section, the last struck with a shield-shaped mark on one side, the socket engraved with two bands of decoration (light pitting overall), on wooden lance in two parts each of circular section (old worming, the forward section with inlet repair), the lower section of tapering fluted form and recessed to form a hand-grip; the second formed as a long spike of octagonal section stamped with three shield-shaped marks on one flat behind the fluted circular hand-guard, becoming multi-faceted in front of the open socket of tapering circular section, and with replacement fluted wooden grip of tapering circular section with iron cap (some pitting) (2)
