A North African 15-Bore Brass-Mounted Toe-Lock Gun, And Another Of 22-Bore
Both 19th Century

The first with octagonal sighted barrel retained by three shaped brass barrel bands each with petalled border and embossed with foliage, tang covered in chased brass, large characteristic lock signed and dated in Arabic beneath, partly overlaid with brass and chased with arabesques and foliage, the mainspring with an applied brass leaf, sprung dog-catch engaging with the back of the cock, three-quarter stock (fore-end slightly chipped on one side) inlaid with pinned brass panels roughly pierced and engraved with foliage set with ovoidal pieces of bone, triangular butt en suite, brass and copper butt-plate mounts secured by small brass nails, and exposed trigger (ramrod missing); the second of similar form, with swamped barrel retained by three thin iron bands, the dog-catch set with a red coral bead, ebonised three-quarter stock, ivory butt-plate with pierced iron mount, and wooden ramrod with carved tip (2)
