A Large Highly Decorative Indian Circular Steel Dhal
Late 19th Century

Of convex form, with applied shaped rim and four differing chased steel bosses, centred on an applied brass roundel embossed, pierced and chased with a sun-in-splendour, the outer surface set with four large brass roundels each embossed and chased with Indian male and female figures in contemporary costume, the men armed with various weapons and each scene set by a river or in a landscape, all against a ground of chiselled scrolling foliage inhabited by further Indian figures and Gods including Hanuman, tigers, elephants and antelope, the outer border en suite and including four panels of Indian inscriptions
