Two Persian Circular Steel Dhals
Qajar, 19th Century

Each of steel and of convex form, the first with four silver-damascened domed bosses, and an applied brass border, embossed and chased centrally with a gold-damascened sun-in-splendour (small hole), the rays damascened with gold scrollwork against a ground of chiselled foliage, the outer border with ovoidal and circular panels of chiselled silver-damascened Persian verses in cursive script between borders of foliage and running arabesques; the second of similar form, the outer surface etched with Persian seated courtly figures, utensils and birds between cartouche-shaped panels retaining some silver-damascening, the outer border etched with panels of Persian verses in cursive script en suite (some light pitting overall) (2)
