A Fine Coorg Silver-Mounted Pichangatti
19th Century

With broad single-edged cleaver-shaped blade clipped-back at the point and stamped with a row of leaf-shaped marks between incised lines along the back on each side, silver hilt of characteristic form with swelling rounded pommel set with three gold studs along each side of the grip, the pommel with gold cap and set with three gold florets, in original wooden scabbard with silver mounts including locket and chape with applied bands of twisted silver wire, the latter with bud-shaped finial, and complete with original silver suspension chain with cleaning implements (two missing) and suspension ornament with red coral beads suspended from silver chains
