An English Bullet Crossbow
By P. Bond, No. 15 Cornhill, London, Early 19th Century

With slender iron bow (fore-sight missing), built-in gaffle originally retained by a sprung catch at the rear, signed folding back-sight engraved with a prone gundog above and a gamebird and foliage below, acorn-shaped finial, flat-sided tiller with gun butt and chequered grip, the butt (drilled through and set with a piece of pewter secured by brass nails) stamped with initials 'R.B.' on one side, and iron mounts comprising scrolled side-plates, butt-plate and trigger-guard (both pitted), the latter with acorn finial
73.7 cm.
