Late 15th Century, The Painted Decoration Probably 17th Century
Of oblong form with rounded corners and broad central gutter, of wood covered in gesso over canvas, the front painted in polychrome against a russet ground (old repairs and restoration) with the coats-of-arms of Jean V Imhof and of his wife Catherine Müffel von Eschenau and Eicenhard (married 25 November 1486), the interior (some loss of gesso and paint) with original X-shaped leather hand grip (partly detached)

A number of similar pavises are preserved in the church of St. Lorenz in Nuremberg. In use as funerary achievements they are painted with the arms of different Nuremberg families
