A Finely Carved German Powder-Flask
Late 16th Century

With forked body of natural staghorn, the front carved in relief with an armoured figure of a nobleman in a townscape between Classical columns, framed by borders of wrigglework with scrolled strapwork at the top and bottom, the former centred on a grotesque mask, the latter above a vacant plaque against foliage (mounts missing)
