Formed from a broad band of brass with turned and moulded borders followed by lines of embossed dots and punched ornament, inscribed 'Franz Mendes Fleischauer Paron' and 'K.K. Regiments V. Kerpen No. 49' on either side of an embossed lion's mask carrying a ring in its mouth, and hinged clasp with iron padlock, the latter retaining its key

The infantry regiment Freiherr von Kerpen No. 49 was commanded by Feldmarschalleutnant Wilhelm von Kerpen (1741-1823) between 1797 and 1823. The regiment saw action as part of the Allied Army of Bohemia at the Battle of Leipzig in 1813
