A Riding (Reiter) Sword
German Or Italian, Circa 1570-80

With associated straight single-edged blade (some surface pitting) double-edged at the point, cut with four narrow fullers on each face over almost its entire length, and with five fullers on each face of the ricasso, between two of them a small mark stamped on each face, plain iron hilt composed of bars of circular section and comprising horizontally recurved quillons widening at their tips, outer-guard of two rings each swelling at its entire, arms, inner-guard of three merging diagonal bars surmounted by a thumb-ring, heavy spherical pommel with integral button, and later wooden grip bound with twisted iron wire between Turk's heads
