A Swept-Hilt Rapier
Early 17th Century

With sharply tapering broad flattened double-edged blade with two fullers on each side of the forte, fluted ricasso, iron hilt composed of bars of circular section and comprising horizontal quillons swelling towards the tips, arms, three outer side-rings swelling at their centres, the top most linked by a curved bar to the knuckle-guard, inner-guard of three converging slender bars also joining the knuckle-guard and an additional scrolled bar in front, associated heavy faceted globular pommel with integral button, and fluted wooden grip bound with plaited iron wire between Turk's heads (surface pitted throughout, minor brazed repairs)
