A Composite Swept-Hilt Rapier
Circa 1600

With later sharply tapering flattened double-edged blade with broad shallow fuller on each face of the forte and struck with a counterfeit bladesmith's mark on each face of the ricasso, iron hilt of bars of hexagonal section and comprising horizontal quillons swelling towards the tips, arms, three outer side-rings each swelling at its centre, the top most joined by a curved bar to the top of the knuckle-guard just below its ring finial, inner-guard of four merging curved narrow bars also rising to join the knuckle-guard, large faceted barrel-shaped pommel with raised ridge on each side and integral button, and later wire-bound wooden grip
