A Venetian Or Dalmatian Schiavona
18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section etched with an orb and cross mark within the central fuller on one side of the forte, and with a running wolf within the other, short ricasso struck with a saltire-shaped mark on both sides, characteristic iron guard comprising a fan-shaped arrangement of five bars pinched-in and joined at the top to a wide flat bar pierced with three rows of chevroned trelliswork, inner-guard with similar fan-shaped arrangement of bars, each linked together and enclosing a thumb-ring , one bar incised with an inscription in cyrllic, curved rear quillon with button terminal, shield-shaped brass pommel with raised central boss on each side, and original wooden grip (binding missing), in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather (suspension strap incomplete), its lower half mounted with an iron strap of shaped outline at the chape and secured by six groups of three iron bands (eight missing)
