A North European Dish-Hilt Rapier
Mid-17th Century

With slender sharply tapering blade of hollowed diamond section, the forte etched with symmetrical designs of foliage on one side, and chiselled '.No.Me.Salves.Sin.Raison.' on the other, symmetrical iron hilt comprising shallow circular guard (some rust patination) pierced and chiselled as a flower-head, the guard between the petals pierced with numerous small circular holes, chiselled quillon-block with upbent quillons each with bud-shaped terminal and a scroll beneath, later globular pommel cast with flower-heads, and spirally-twist grip bound with twisted iron wire between Turk's heads
