The Grip Late 17th Century, The Remainder 18th Century
With broad bright fullered blade double-edged at the point and etched on one side of the forte with a horseman in contemporary costume between panels of foliage, and on the other with a military trophy also between panels of foliage, the short ricasso struck with a bladesmith's mark on one side, the hilt comprising brass cross-guard with straight quillons of hexagonal section, and tapering ivory grip of circular section carved in low relief with a melée of hounds attacking an ibex, a stag, a bear, a boar and a hare, and involving a huntsman on horseback spearing a bear, and integral lion-head pommel with open mouth, in its wood-lined leather scabbard with linear engraved brass locket and chape, the former with frog-stud and three apertures for by-knife, fork and bodkin (missing)
