A Bowie Knife
By Brookes & Crookes, Sheffield, Circa 1865

With bright single-edged blade of Bowie type clipped-back and with false double-edge at the point, one side etched 'NY', a shield between, and with an American eagle in front of the forte, the latter stamped with maker's details, a crowned 'VR' above, hilt comprising flat brass quillons with lobed recurved tips, white-metal cutlery pommel embossed with foliage and C-scrolls, and natural staghorn grip
