MAGIC

KELLER (HEINRICH, "Harry"), coloured lithograph, linen backed, 770 x 535mm, Cincinnati & New York, Strobridge Litho Co., [c.1900]

Footnotes

American born Kellar (1849-1922), a predecessor of Harry Houdini, was one of the most famous magicians of his time. He built the Kellar brand through his iconic posters which often featured his trademark imps implying, without explicitly stating, his involvement in the 'dark arts' which, as a result, served to further his popularity.
