Charles Wilson (1891-1967), known as the 'Pitman Poet' and author of The Poetical Works of Charles Wilson (1916), was a freelance journalist and advocate of adult education, corresponding with the likes of James Joyce, Aldous Huxley and D.H. Lawrence, in later life setting up as a bookseller and flogging off their replies (see The Letters of D.H. Lawrence, edited by J.T. and M.H. Boulton, vi, 1991, pp. 229-230, and Letters of A.E. Housman, ed. Burnett, p. liii; where however this letter is not printed). Housman was to die five months later.
