RARE. Thomas Young (1773-1829) founded the Egyptian Society in 1819 to publish these hieroglyphic inscriptions "to exhibit perfectly correct representations of the greatest possible extent of materials for a limited sum". The cost of printing was met by subscription, Young mentioning in the introductory text that 200 copies of the first fascicule were printed. The fifty-three subscribers included William Gell, H.C. Englefield, William Hamilton, Richard Heber, Edward Lane, Payne Knight, Frederick Henniker and Henry Salt. ABPC records no copy sold at auction in the past thirty years.
