A good, clean and tall copy. The plates depict trades and everyday scenes of Parisian life, including a street magician, a school for female artists, dog hairdressers (showing poodles), flower market, a shoe-shine boy, restaurant and café scenes, "le marchand de brioches", morning at the Tuilleries, and a bonnet shop. Swiss-born John James Chalon (1778-1854) was a successful landscape and genre painter, elected a Royal Academician in 1845. See illustration overleaf.
