A superbly illustrated ichthyological atlas, the most splendid work on fishes of the nineteenth century. Bleeker, director of the Rijksmusuem van Natuurlikje Histoire at Leiden, began his work on the fish of the Indo-Pacific ocean in 1845, and collected over 12,000 samples from the East Indian Archipelago to Holland. It was unfinished at his death in 1878.
