A collection of four tracts relating to America, trade and taxation, specifically in relation to the Massachusetts Government Act of 1774. In Select Letters Francis Bernard, governor of Massachusetts, proposed a plan whereby the colonies would be represented both in the House of Commons and through the creation of a colonial life peerage, whilst Jonathan Shipley, bishop of St. Asaph, attacked Britain's imposition of taxes. Belton House, near Grantham in Lincolnshire, was for three hundred years the seat of the Brownlow and Cust families. At the time of these pamphlets it was home to Sir Brownlow Cust, 4th Baronet.
