JOHN EVELYN'S SPECIALLY BOUND COPY OF ONE OF THE EARLIEST WORKS ON EGYPTOLOGY. A study of the "Mensa Isiaca", a bronze table top discovered in the ruins of the Temple of Isis in Rome in 1527 by the scholar Lorenzo Pignoria (1571-1631) who believed that it related to Egyptian ceremonies of sacrifice. The volume was purchased by Evelyn in 1645 at Venice, during his extended Grand Tour.
This copy, in common with the Blackmer copy, does not have the large folding plate.
