Musurgia universalis sive ars magna consoni et dissoni in X libros digesta, 2 works in one vol., first edition, 2 engraved frontispieces (one shaved at upper margin), portrait, 2 engraved plates (one double-page, one folding), numerous woodcut illustrations, diagrams and musical notations in the text, ownership inscription "Bibliotheca Ninivensis 1651" on title and upper margin of frontispiece with longer inscription on verso of frontispiece, perforated library stamp on title and portrait, contemporary calf gilt, one line fillet border, inner border with decorative corner pieces, enclosing ornamental oval beraring the legend "Pace et Fortitudine", g.e., extremities of spine and corners refurbished, preserved in half morocco book box [Brunet III, 668; Caillet 5785], folio (320 x 208mm.), Rome, Heirs of Francesco Corbelletti, 1650

A fine, crisp copy of an important encyclopaedia on music of the later Renaissance and Baroque period. The fine illustrations depict instruments, musical mechanical machines, acoustic experiments, and birdsong.
