Druell (or Dewell) is recorded in Edward Peacock, Army Lists of the Roundheads and Cavaliers (1874), p. 83, as an Ensign in the regiment of Colonel William Vavasour in 1640 (during the Second Bishops' War) as well as an Ensign in Northumberland's army 'after the Armies Retreat from Newcastle into York' that year (Rushworth, Historical Collections, iii, 1639-40); while an order of the House of Commons of 20 September 1642, lists him among those to 'be committed to several prisons at the discretion of the Sheriff of Middlesex'.
