BAKER (RICHARD)

Theatrum Redivivum, or the Theater Vindicated... in Answer to Mr. Pryn's Histrio-Mastix, first edition, shaved just touching one running headline, recased in contemporary red morocco, covers with double fillet border enclosing wide border of floral devices and sprays and central panel and elaborately tooled lozenge, spine in six compartments, one with title lettering, g.e. [Wing B513], 8vo, T.R. for Francis Eglesfield, 1662

Footnotes

First edition in a fine contemporary red morocco binding. A rebuttal of William Prynne's Histrio-Mastix it was published posthumously in 1662, seventeen years after Richard Baker's death in 1645. "It was characterized by much common sense" (ODNB).

Saleroom notices

The binding is not contemporary. It has suggested it is in the style of Philip Dusel.
