WORLD WAR II - CHURCHILL and ROOSEVELT at the CASABLANCA CONFERENCE

Signed photograph of Churchill, Roosevelt and chiefs of staff at the Casablanca Conference, showing Churchill and Roosevelt seated in the garden of the Anfa Hotel, Casablanca, with standing behind them the six chiefs of staff (King, Marshall and Arnold for the United States and Pound, Brooke and Portal for Britain) and three other senior officers, namely (from left to right) Lieutenant-General Brehon B. Somervell (head of US Army Services of Supply), General H.H. Arnold, Admiral Ernest J. King, Lieutenant-General Sir Hastings Ismay (Churchill's Chief of Staff), General George Marshall (directly behind Roosevelt), Admiral of the Fleet Sir Dudley Pound, General Sir Alan Brooke (directly behind Churchill), Air Chief Marshal Sir Charles Portal and Commodore Lord Louis Mountbatten (head of Combined Operations), and signed in the image by each (except Mountbatten), with Roosevelt and Churchill's signatures beneath the photograph (along with a second signature of Somervell's in the margin), two vertical creases in the photograph and one in the right-hand border, size of image 250 x 305mm., overall 430 x 455mm., 14-23 January 1943

CHURCHILL, ROOSEVELT AND THE ALLIED HIGH COMMAND AT CASABLANCA: it was at the Casablanca Conference of the Allied Chiefs of Staff, with Roosevelt and Churchill in attendance, that the Allies declared their policy of Unconditional Surrender; as well as agreeing on general war strategy. Only three other photographs signed jointly by Churchill and Roosevelt are recorded as having been sold by ABPC.
