Major the Hon Henry Percy, the only one of Wellington's ADCs not to be killed or wounded in the battle, arrived in London with the Waterloo despatch at about ten in the evening of 21 June. The writer of the present letter was possibly General John Alexander Douglas Agnew Wallace (later styling himself Sir John Wallace of Craigie) who had fought in the Peninsula and who was to return to France with a brigade later that year (see ODNB). The Dean of Windsor was Edward Legge, later Bishop of Oxford and Warden of All Souls.
