THRALE (HESTER, Mrs PIOZZI)

Autograph lettercard in the third person: "Mrs Piozzi is very Sorry to think She must return the Border History. It is very beautiful & by no means dear, tho' too high prized for her", one page, on card, laid onto part of an album leaf, some foxing, oblong 8vo, "25: June"

Footnotes

This note may refer to a re-issue of George Ridpath's Border History of England and Scotland deduced from the earliest Times to the Union of the two Crowns, originally published in 1776 (when she was still Mrs Thrale), with further editions in 1808 and 1810. Alternatively – given her praise for the book's beauty – it might refer to Walter Scott's lavishly-illustrated Border Antiquities of England and Scotland of 1814.
