SLAVERY – SIERRA LEONE

Papers of John Hamilton of Sierra Leone, Commissioner of Appraisement and Sale to the Courts of Mixed Commissions, chiefly relating to accusations made against him by the Lieutenant Governor, Major Campbell, that he was illegally profiting from the purchase and sale of former slave ships after the abolition of slavery, comprising his retained draft of his despatch to Lord Glenelg justifying his behaviour, a duplicate certificate of seizure of a Portuguese brig “engaged in he illicit Traffic in Slaves”, a militia commission, and four other items, c.1833-1838
