"A Journal of Remarks and Observations as Kept by E. G. M. [Edward George Morse]/ Remarks on board the Sarah Barque of London", beginning 11 December 1832, being a hybrid between logbook and commonplace book, illustrated with vigorous sketches of exotic locations visited (both littoral views and maps), including "Remarks on the Island of Mahe/ December 1831 to June 1832"; with other entries relating to Madagascar, Mauritius, St Helena, etc; with earlier notes taken during medical lectures reversed at the end, upwards of 120 pages, a few leaves removed, some wear but overall in sound and attractive condition, original vellum, worn, small 4to, 1830s; sold with an oil portrait of the writer (presumably), in attractive naive style
