Lady Anne Hamilton was appointed Lady of the Bedchamber to the Princess of Wales in 1814. However the Princess fled Britain on 8 August that year, and did not return until Queen, so one can only hazard a guess that it predates her official appointment. Lady Anne – described by Creevey as 'full six feet high' and bearing 'a striking resemblance to one of Lord Derby's great red deer' – was to remain extraordinarily loyal to Caroline in her later vicissitudes. The invitation may not have appealed greatly to Fanny Burney, whose diaries have left a vivid record of the tedium suffered by ladies-in-waiting at the court of Caroline's mother-in-law, Queen Charlotte.
