Autograph verses and accompanying drawing, the verses headed "On an American Best Seller", and comprising two quatrains, beginning: "The Decadents bridges broke down in despair..."; the drawing showing St Louis the King gesturing towards the broken bridge of San Luis Rey, the verse one page, oblong 8vo, the drawing one page, folio, both slightly browned, framed and glazed, unexamined out of frame, overall 570 X 330mm., 1927

G.K. CHESTERTON ON THORNTON WILDER: Thornton Wilder's world-wide best seller, The Bridge of San Luis Rey, was published in 1927, winning the Pulitzer Prize the following year. Chesterton's squib was published in facsimile of both handwriting and drawing in GK's Weekly, where the grandfather of the present owner was employed.
