WALT WHITMAN TO HIS LITERARY EXECUTOR: Thomas Biggs Harned was one of three Whitman executors, the others being Richard M. Bucke and Horace L. Traubel, each of whom inherited a portion of Whitman's papers. Only those that went to Harned remain largely intact; these for the most part date from 1855 up until Whitman's death in 1892, and are now in the Library of Congress.
