Autograph postcard signed ("Walt Whitman"), to Harry D. Hughes of Philadelphia, acknowledging receipt of the December and February numbers of Leisure Moment "with your friendly articles about me"; and assuring him: "I... wish to thank you. They are affectionately appreciated. I thank Edward Stratton Holloway for sending them to me"; autograph address on verso, one page, dust-marked, a little creased, but in attractive condition, 8vo on a US Postal Card, 328 Mickle Street, Camden, New Jersey, 2 February 1887

WALT WHITMAN BASKS IN PRAISE: Harry D. Hughes, his correspondent had written of his Prose Works of Walt Whitman in the February number of Leisure Moments 'in superlatives' (Edwin Haviland Miller, Walt Whitman: The Correspondence, iv, 1964, p. 67 fn; where a brief summary only of the card is given). Edward Stratton Holloway, who sent Whitman Hughes's appreciative review, was a painter specializing in coastal views, who also worked for forty-six years as Art Director of the publishers J.B. Lippincott & Co, designing and decorating many of their books himself.
