Longitudinal section of H.M.S. Marlborough coloured tinted lithograph by F. Bedford published 1857 by C.L.Pickering and Ackermann & Co.57.5 x 132cm (22 5/8 x 51 15/16in).

Footnotes

The lithograph is printed in black and several shades of brown/sepia. Printed at the top is 'Longitudinal Section of H.M.S. "Marlborough" First-Class First-Rate Line-of-Battle Ship of 131 guns with Screw Propeller and Auxiliary Steam Power.' At the bottom of the print it reads 'To Captain Sir Baldwin Walker, Bt. R.N. K.C.B. Surveyor of the Navy / Designer of the Noble Ship destined for England's future Line of Battle at Sea, This Print is with permission most respectfully Dedicated by his Obliged and obedient Servant / Charles Lewis Pickering.' Below this is a four-line stanza quotation from Byron. At the lower left in smaller type it reads 'C. L. Pickering Del. F. Bedford Lith.' At the lower right 'Published July 1st 1857, By the Proprietor, Charles Lewis Pickering, 22 Park Villas, Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith and Ackermann & Co. (late of 96 Strand) 15 Beaufort Buildings, Strand, London WC.' Also to the lower right 'Standige & Co. Litho 36 Old Jewry, London. Price with Text annexed twenty-five shillings.'
