Footnotes

The Clyde Shipping Co. Ltd. can claim to be amongst the very earliest of steamships companies, having operated steam-driven 'luggage boats' on the Clyde since 1815.
The S.S. Beachy was built in 1909 by Scott's Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. of Greenock, weighing 4,718 gross tons. She was sunk by a German submarine in the Mediterranean in 1916, after making several trips to Hong Kong and the China coast.
