Footnotes

The SS Clan Ferguson was one of a line of Turret ships designed by William Doxford & Sons of Sunderland, the narrow decks and flared hull intended to secure favourable tonnage rates and ensure more stability with bulk cargoes. Launched in 1898 for the Clan Line, she was torpedoed on September 7th 1917 by U49 off the coast of Morocco whilst en route to Bombay via Alexandria with a cargo of coal. Ten of her crew perished.
