A Victorian pearl set stickpin

Formed as a horseshoe set with a row of graduated half pearls to a stickpin mount, mounted in gold, length 75mm,to a case retailed by Beasley & Beasley, London, accompanied by a copy of a letter from George Craig, Chief Magistrate of Kelso written to Queen Victoria following her visit to Floors Castle, Kelso

Footnotes

By family repute this stickpin was presented to the vendor's grandfather, head butler to the Duke & Duchess of Roxburgh at Broxmouth Park, Dunbar and at Floors Castle, Kelso, by Queen Victoria following her stay for three days at Floors in 1867. The visit was the Queen's first official engagement following the death of Prince Albert, and her recent bereavement is alluded to in the letter accompanying this lot. Indeed her diaries mention how difficult this visit was without him. The Queen also visited Broxmounth in 1878.
