A Victorian silver salver

By J.Law, Edinburgh 1847
Of shaped circular form on three foliate feet, with central presentation inscription for 1847 within a wide border of scrolling foliage and flower heads, diameter 33cm, weight 36oz.

Footnotes

The presentation inscription reads;
'Presented to Mr John George Young By The Celtic Society, In Testimony of their sense of the excellent manner in which he executed the duties of PURVEYOR for the section of the Society which attended at Inverary on Wednesday the 18th August 1847 as a GUARD of HONOUR at the landing and re-embarkation of HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN, HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE ALBERT, THE PRINCE OF WALES AND PRINCESS ROYAL, on the occasion of Her Majesty's visit to His Grace The Duke of Argyll, President of The Society.' Surmounted by the motto 'CHA TREIG MI THU' in ribbon garland above the figure of a Highlander in full Highland dress.
