A pair of rare and unusual Scottish pottery hands

Possibly Montrose
Cast from a pair of ladies hands, each terminating above the wrist with the head of a 92nd Gordon Highlander, with point type decoration forming the details of the lapels and uniform, of hollow form, each with a hole in the hat of the Highlander, 30cm long, 9.5cm wide

Footnotes

The glaze on the hands bears a strong similarity to the glaze found on pieces produced at Dryley's Pottery, Dubton, Hillside, Montrose. The pottery was taken over in 1856 by Col Thomas Renny Tailyour who served in India with the Bengal Engineers. The Gordon Highlanders were also stationed in India about that time. It is possible that the hands are 'sweetheart hands' produced as a memento for a Highlander serving overseas.
