Including many familiar motifs such as the Chinese vase, fruit, fan and book, this composition emphasises Peploe's interest in shape and pattern. Planes of yellow, green, black and white divide the canvas quite rigidly, while the arabesques of the stems soften the effect and place the coloured flowerheads in relief against different colours and tones.
